Blurring
Appearance
Blurring
Blurring is a privacy-enhancing feature that automatically applies a blur effect to detected persons in video logs. It is designed to support GDPR and similar privacy regulations by preventing the identification of individuals in recorded footage.
As a matter of fact VIS blurs all detection. Objects not to be blurred must be set in the configuration.

Purpose
The main objective of the blurring feature is to protect the privacy of individuals detected in visual logs, especially in environments where video data may be reviewed or stored for extended periods.
Availability
How It Works
- Scope: Blurring is applied to the entire detected region of specified object classes.
- Default Behavior:
- Enabled by default for all Vislets.
- The Person class is typically blurred in the default configuration (class ID
0in PF models).
- Configuration:
- Blurring is Vislet-based and controlled via configuration files.
- Classes to be excluded from blurring are listed using the
no_blur_classesconfiguration key.- Example:
no_blur_classes: [0]— this disables blurring for class ID0(i.e., PERSON).
- Example:
- Startup Logging:
- The system logs the current blurring configuration at startup to ensure traceability and transparency.
- Runtime Behavior:
- Blurring can be enabled or disabled per Vislet via configuration.
Caution
Blurring relies on detection; therefore, if a person is not detected (i.e. a false negative), they will not be blurred.
Notes
- Blurring does not affect real-time detection or violation logic; it only modifies how detections are rendered in video logs.
- When turned on, blurring is reflected on both video logs and live feed on Visor.
- This feature is especially useful when sharing or exporting video samples with external parties or for internal audits.
