IPIO Manager 2.0

This is the user guide for the new web based IPIO Manager, version 2.0. The new version is a web based tool that can be deployed on any web server and can be used to connect and manage any IPIO on the same network. The new IPIO Manager will be deployed on each Visbox, on port 20000 by default. If it is not available at that port on older devices, open a ticket for refresh installation.

Connecting to an IPIO

To connect to an IPIO it must be on the same network with the device web app is running and you need following information:

  • IP address of the IPIO you want to connect
  • Username and password
  • Port, 5000 by default

Connecting to an IPIO

Once connected, IPIO Manager display current status of the IPIO and available commands.

IO Control System

IO Control section of the IPIO Manager allows user to monitor inputs and also change state of digital outputs of the connected IPIO. Each click on an output changes state between ON and OFF and clicking the lightning symbol on the corner sets the output to toggle.

The state of outputs and inputs are frequently pulled by the web app. The update frequency may show the toggle function and heartbeat off sync. To see exact timing users are advised to check the physical device.

Note that VIS frequently updates outputs of the IPIO based on the detection and decision made after that. Changing the state of a digital output by IPIO Manager where the same output is also controlled actively by a VIS instance, wont effect because VIS may change its value back what it is supposed to be. To picture this situation, assume DO1 and DO2 are controlled by VIS to reflect a persons presence in a region. If there's a person, these outputs will be set to ON (1) and if not then to OFF (0). If a user would turn any of these outputs to 0 while there's a person, this user would see that it immediately turns back to 1 because there's a person in the region and VIS commands IPIO to have the output set to 1.

Device Information

The device information section below the IO controller shows the version of the device firmware and MAC address of the IPIO.

Device Configuration

Following IPIO settings can be changed with IPIO Manager:

  • Presets of mute, emergency and recovery
  • Network settings
  • Timer settings for pulse interval and time out settings
  • Credentials

Presets

Presets are an important integration with VIS and helps to deploy trustworthy and working solutions. There are three of them and all are defined by an 8 digit string. Each digit represents a digital output from 1 to 8 as from left to right, where the most left digit represents DO 1 and most right represents DO 8. Each digit may have one of the following values:

  • 0 - OFF
  • 1 - ON
  • 2 - pulse
  • 3 - no change

So, if you want to turn all inputs ON, that's the string you should have: 11111111.

Emergency Preset

Under normal conditions, at least one VIS is should be connected to the IPIO to send signals for the EUC. Emergency preset is the feature that tells IPIO what to do in case there's no connection. This is expected to step in as a contingency in case connection between VIS and IPIO breaks for any reason. Assuming the IPIO is still in tact and connected to the ECU, it will assume the emergency preset as long as there's no connection.

Emergency preset is the setting to let the IPIO know which states to set for each digital output. The values on the image for emergency preset ("00000000") turns all output OFF.

Recovery Preset

Once a connection is established with the IPIO, emergency mode is off and IPIO will resume. In order to reset output to a preferred state there is Recovery Preset feature. IPIO assumes recovery preset once it is moved from emergency state to normal. If a VIS is connected, all outputs managed by VIS will be set to its decision but if there are any output VIS is not changing, or at least not immediately changing will be set to values in the Recovery Preset.

Note that any connection to the IPIO, also coming from an IPIO Manager will turn emergency mode off to recovery.

Important: Recovery settings must be made sure to be safe at all times.

Example

Let's assume, we have a VIS and an IPIO with two regions. First 4 of the DOs are set by VIS for region violations, and set to 1 when it is safe and set to 0 when not. DO 5 is used for H/B, and there's a red light connected to DO 8. Under normal working conditions, DO 8 is set to 0. In case of emergency, we need to tell the ECU it is not safe and alert the supervisor the system is in emergency mode by flashing the red light. For that we would set the Emergency Preset as 00000332, as such:

  • First 4 DO set to 0 to let the ECU know it is not safe by any means.
  • DO 5 set to 0 to turn the H/B off, only for the convenience of a supervisor.
  • We are not concerned with DO 7 and 8, therefore we set them to 3. This means their state will not be changed by the emergency mode.
  • DO 8 will be set to pulse in the interval set timer settings.

We would like to all safety related output in an unsafe position even when there's a connection. If VIS decides it is safe to turn them off it may do so, but recovery should not take this responsibility. H/B can be set to any value, DO 6 and 7 are not our concern for the sake of this example and we would like to turn off the light on DO 8. So, this would be our recovery preset: 00003330.

Mute Preset

Last of the presets is the Mute Preset. For any reason if you want to set IPIO in a stand by position with predefined output states you will need to use the Mute feature. Mute is a built-in feature of the IPIO with the following consequences:

  1. IPIO DOs assume the state defined by the mute preset
  2. IPIO ignores all commands coming from all connected parties including all VIS instances
  3. IPIO keep sending VIS DI values which also triggers a mute log on VIS and a probable mute notification

IPIO unmutes once the mute input is off.

Mute input selection on the same settings section defines which DI will be used as the mute input. IPIO only supports one built in mute input.
